Mattie, Marilyn, Malachi, Moses and Millie are 7 month-old tiger cubs that were used for photo opportunities. Once tigers reach a certain age where authorities and the law deem them dangerous (refer to individual state laws and practices), they are no longer useful for picture opportunities and are sold as pets, for "canned hunts" or euthanized so that new cubs can be bred and used. This is where Keepers of the Wild was able to step in and rescue these cubs.
Pandora and PJ, who were 4 months-old, were rescued also, but were never used for photo opportunities because they acquired ringworm and could not be used. Keepers of the Wild does not usually rescue tiger cubs this young but because of their condition they could not be used by the owners for profit. Keepers of the Wild and its volunteers have worked diligently to bath, medicate and treat these two cubs and they are now totally recovered. PJ was almost completely lacking hair because of her condition.
All five M & Ms, as they are lovingly called by our staff and volunteers, investigate their habitat.
What a wonderful sight to see these 5 beautiful tiger cubs go from a road travel trailer to a 4-acre habitat to run free for the rest of their lives. These cubs are fully intact which is to say they have all their claws and teeth. How lucky for these lovely animals that Keepers of the Wild rescued them and now they are free to roam and grow up with plenty of room to enjoy.
Don't forget that we are completely non-profit and are able to exist solely because of those with the generosity and big heart to help the animals we rescue. The rescue of these seven cubs has heightened our daily food intake which raises our food bill. Help us continue to rescue these beautiful animals and give today! Ways to give can be viewed here.

PJ February 2007, you can see she has recovered well and grew her fur back.

THE MATTIE FUND
One of the M & Ms (AKA one of the older of the Magnificent Seven), Mattie, has problems walking, lacks energy and has signs of neurological distress. We have created The Mattie Fund to help with her vet care through this troubled time as we work to find the root of her difficulties and find a way to treat and cure it. If you would like to help with this timely and costly care at Mattie's great time of need, click here and check mark "The Mattie Fund". To learn more, click here.
Unfortunately, the hardest part of the job for volunteers and staff alike, is the loss of one of our animals. The only thing that makes it much worse is when an animal is lost completely unexpectedly. Pandora, one of the two younger of the cubs, passed away due to a very unfortunate and freak accident. While playing with her habitat mates she was fatally injured and we here at Keepers of the Wild are devastated by this accident. Pandora would have been a year old along with her sister PJ in another 2 weeks. This just goes to show how powerful these exotic cats can be and why we discourage owning these majestic creatures. IN MEMORY OF PANDORA...
